Community Health Worker (CHW) – Southeast Roanoke

United Way of Roanoke Valley is seeking a highly motivated, organized, outgoing and detail-oriented Community Health Worker to join our team. The CHW, in partnership with various community stakeholders in Southeast Roanoke City, will advocate for and work directly with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health needs, and/or substance use disorder in SE Roanoke. Candidates must be a team-player and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to gain the trust of people from various walks of life and socio-economic levels. The Candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, and must successfully complete Community Health Worker training upon hire with the potential to also receive certification to train other CHWs. Two years of general work experience and experience in community outreach and working with underserved and marginalized populations preferred. A valid Virginia Driver’s License and reliable transportation is required.

This is a full-time, grant funded position at 37.5 hours per week. This is a non-exempt, hourly paid position at $23.50 per hour, with benefits. UWRV is an EOE and drug free workplace.

Family Engagement Specialist

United Way of Roanoke Valley is seeking a highly motivated, organized and detail-oriented Specialist who possesses an understanding of the diversity of the various communities within the UWRV service area. This position will work with families, community partners and early childhood education providers to develop and implement a region wide Family Council project to ensure that all families and care givers have opportunities to be engaged in regional early childhood planning and initiatives. In addition, the position will support families in connecting with resources related to Early Childhood Education. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the ability to plan outreach events, plan and execute trainings, and facilitate group discussions. Successful applicants will possess excellent communication, leadership and customer service skills; have proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite; be familiar with navigating and managing information in databases and recruiting, managing and facilitating volunteer groups.

Bachelor’s in Early Childhood, Social Work, Psychology, Health Science, or related field with 2 years’ experience in a human services field or Associates Degree with 5 or more years’ experience. Experience facilitating family or community group meetings is preferred. Knowledge of early childhood, family engagement best practices and/or social determinates of health preferred. Salary range for this position is $ 53,000 – 56,000 annually plus benefits. UWRV is an EOE and drug free workplace.
