How you can get involved

In a collaborative effort between Franklin County Service Unit of Salvation Army, Franklin County Public Schools, Walmart, United Way of Roanoke Valley, Healthy Franklin County, and Rocky Mount Police Department, we are hosting the Fill the Bus event to help kids have the tools needed to succeed in the school year.

We need community support in two different ways:

The first way you can help support Fill the Bus is to be one of our amazing volunteers! As a volunteer, you can choose which of the three days (August 2nd, 3rd, or 4th) to help out in one-hour increments. We will need support in helping loading and organizing supplies on the school bus (maybe some heavy lifting), counting monetary donations, greeting patrons about the event and set up and cleanup.

Donation Box

The second way to support Fill the Bus is to host a donation box. Employees and/or community members can donate supplies for Franklin County Public Schools until August 4th.

One of our team members for Fill the Bus will drop off a box at the business location for you. We ask that you share this community and engagement opportunity with your clientele and employees via email newsletter / list-serve, social media, or other communication methods. We can provide the flyer and any additional information that you may need.

School Supplies Drop Off

Once the supplies are all collected, please have a representative from your business bring the donations to Rocky Mount Walmart on one of the three event days during these hours:

Friday & Saturday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM   |   Sunday: 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

All donations will remain in Franklin County Schools and distributed to all grade levels. If interested in volunteering and/or hosting a drop box, please reach out to Stephanie Hackett at United Way of Roanoke Valley at 540-777-4215 or at stephanie [at]
